Praha 09

Hi everyone, I'm Katy Yount. I just got back from the five week summer abroad program in Prague. It was my first trip to Europe, and I had a fantastic time. Prague is an amazing city, full of history and culture. Our dorms were located in Old Town Prague, which is a tourist's paradise. There are shops everywhere, from fancy-schmancy places like Prada, to cheap little souvenir stores where you can buy any gift your parents could possibly desire. The food choices in Old Town range from Italian, Czech, Italian, Chinese, and Italian. I don't want to see a pizza again for a loooong time. The nightlife is pretty varied, too. Beer is cheaper than water, and those Czechs love their 90's music. As for sightseeing, you can't go wrong with a trip to Prague Castle. Just cross the Charles Bridge and you're on your way. On the way there, there's a park with albino peacocks (random, but pretty!). Also, check out the Lennon Wall, a graffitied wall dedicated to John Lennon. On the walk up to the castle you'll get a view of Prague that you'll never forget. During the five weeks I took International Anti-trust, European Union Law, Human Rights in Central Europe, and Comparative Land Use Law. We had a couple USF professors and a couple professors from Charles University. The classes were interesting (for the most part) and let's just say we weren't lacking reading material. The law building left a little to be desired, considering the sweltering heat and the building's lack of air conditioning. But it was used as the SS headquarters during the Nazi occupation, which was pretty interesting/creepy. The school took us on a weekend trip to Kutna Hora, which was a nice little town about an hour outside of Prague. We visited a church decorated with the bones of 40,000 people. Weird. We also visited St. Barbara's, a UNESCO site, which was beautiful. It poured rain the entire time, but luckily we found a nice little restaurant and had some lovely Czech cuisine. All in all, my time in Prague was fun and memorable. I would definitely recommend checking out (no pun intended) this program. My advice: don't overload on the units, and definitely find an apartment. The dorms were not so comfy. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me!
